In a major policy decision, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced today that it has authorized state-licensed pharmacists (and pharmacy interns acting under their supervision) to order and administer vaccines to individuals ages three through 18 years, subject to the requirements listed below. The authorization is made in a third amendment to the Declaration under the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act for Medical Countermeasures Against COVID–19 (PREP Act), which also provides certain liability protections for providers.
